The first three portraits seem to me enough good. In some of the portraits (including children), but especially in the second “Family Group”, I seem to notice a complete absence of sense of proportions. If the mother seated, which in his arms the last born, would get up, she really would appear like a giant compared to even older children.

Frankly I think that J. R. Penniman was much good at painting landscapes. Obviously this is not a negative criticism, but just my impression.

Where is the Aaron Willard Sr. portrait from? I have never seen this version of the portrait and I am interested in its location, in a museum perhaps, and provenance. Thank you!
