I know I keep beating on the “18th and 19th Century artists could NOT accurately portray children” shtick, but gosh, “The Dickinson Children” do look ridiculous.

Regardless of its artistic quality, this painting is in any case important because is one of only two authenticated portraits of Emily Dickinson…You could say that portrait explains why, as an adult, she spoke to the people through the door rather than face to face.

Oh, she wasn’t that bad if this representation of her was accurate. It’s just that head, on that little body, is disconcerting to say the least.
