The Havell painting identified as the Williams House in Deerfield actually depicts the Ensign John Sheldon house, also known as the “Old Indian House” because it survived the French and Indian raid of 1704. When Havell painted it the house was owned by the Hoyt family, but was torn down not long after the painting was done. The painting is owned by Historic Deerfield.
